Confirmed November 19, 2009


President Obama nominated U.S. District Judge David H. Hamilton to the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on March 17, 2009, with the strong support of both on Hamilton’s home state Indiana Senators, including Republican Senator Richard Lugar.  On November 17, 2009, the Senate ended a filibuster on a 70-29 cloture vote (60 votes were required) on which Democrats were joined by Republican Senators Alexander (TN), Brown (MA), Chambliss (GA), Collins (ME), Cornyn (TX), Hatch (UT), Lugar (IN), Murkowski (AK), Snowe (ME), and Thune (SD).   Sen. Hutchinson (R- TX) did not vote.  The Senate confirmed Judge Hamilton by a 59-39 vote on November 19, 2009.
