On September 6, 2007, President George W. Bush nominated E. Duncan Getchell to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In nominating Getchell, President Bush rejected a bipartisan list of five names that Virginia Senators Jim Webb (D) and John Warner (R) recommended for two 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals vacancies from Virginia.
